چکیده

Abstract Introduction Improved outcome measures of muscle reinnervation would facilitate clinical translation new therapies which hope to enhance human peripheral nerve repair. Valid should be receptive the biological process and correlate with assessments muscular function. This study investigated responsiveness volumetric MRI its relationship indices Method Twenty-five patients who underwent transfer reinnervate elbow flexor muscles were followed-up at a median time 258 days (-86 1698 days) post-operatively for mean two (one three) assessments. Medical Research Council (MRC) grade, peak volitional force (PVF), fatigue, co-contraction Stanmore Percentage Normal Elbow Assessment (SPONEA) was also measured each appointment. The parameter compared using Pearson or Spearman correlation as appropriate. Results volume per unit BMI demonstrated (R2=0.73, p < 0.001) correlated patient reported impairments reinnervated muscle; (R2=0.63, = 0.02) fatigue (R2=0.64, 0.04). Conclusions Volumetric may is an excellent candidate measure reinnervation.

Selective cricothyroid muscle reinnervation by muscle-nerve-muscle neurotization.

OBJECTIVE To determine if selective reinnervation of the cricothyroid muscle could be achieved with muscle-nerve-muscle neurotization. DESIGN Case series. SETTING Tertiary referral center. PATIENTS Three consecutive patients with high vagal lesions that resulted in unilateral laryngeal paralysis. INTERVENTIONS Patients underwent laryngeal reinnervation with ansa hypoglossi to recurrent ...

The hyper-reinnervation of rat skeletal muscle.

This study examines muscle recovery and related changes in the motor unit population of 'hyper-reinnervated' rat skeletal muscle. Medial gastrocnemius (MG) muscles were hyper-reinnervated by either cutting the MG nerve and implanting it on the MG muscle together with additional hind limb nerves, or by crushing the MG nerve and excising the medial portion (50-70%) of the MG muscle. Our findings ...

Motor Unit Characteristics after Targeted Muscle Reinnervation

Targeted muscle reinnervation (TMR) is a surgical procedure used to redirect nerves originally controlling muscles of the amputated limb into remaining muscles above the amputation, to treat phantom limb pain and facilitate prosthetic control. While this procedure effectively establishes robust prosthetic control, there is little knowledge on the behavior and characteristics of the reinnervated...

Targeted muscle reinnervation and advanced prosthetic arms.

Targeted muscle reinnervation (TMR) is a surgical procedure used to improve the control of upper limb prostheses. Residual nerves from the amputated limb are transferred to reinnervate new muscle targets that have otherwise lost their function. These reinnervated muscles then serve as biological amplifiers of the amputated nerve motor signals, allowing for more intuitive control of advanced pro...

Bioengineered nerve regeneration and muscle reinnervation.

The peripheral nervous system has the intrinsic capacity to regenerate but the reinnervation of muscles is often suboptimal and results in limited recovery of function. Injuries to nerves that innervate complex organs such as the larynx are particularly difficult to treat. The many functions of the larynx have evolved through the intricate neural regulation of highly specialized laryngeal muscl...
